About the Position
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of RNG (Renewable Natural Gas) Marketing to join our team. This senior position will play a crucial role in developing and executing our RNG marketing strategy, with a primary focus on securing offtake agreements that underwrite our project development portfolio. The ideal candidate will bring deep industry knowledge, strong commercial acumen, and the ability to navigate complex energy markets to optimize value for our RNG assets.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Market Leadership
Lead the development and execution of comprehensive marketing strategies for the company's RNG portfolio
Oversee the identification, negotiation, and securing of offtake agreements with premium counterparties
Analyze market trends, pricing dynamics, and regulatory developments to position our RNG assets for maximum value
Provide strategic guidance on project development priorities based on market intelligence and offtake potential
Collaborate with project development teams to align RNG production capabilities with market requirements
Market Intelligence & Analysis
Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of diverse RNG markets, including transportation, utility, and voluntary markets
Conduct comprehensive analysis to determine highest-value markets for RNG attributes based on geography, feedstock type, and carbon intensity scores
Monitor policy developments across federal, state, and local jurisdictions that impact RNG valuation
Track competitive landscape and identify emerging opportunities and threats
Create market forecasts to inform investment decisions and long-term strategy
Commercial Optimization
Structure and negotiate complex offtake agreements that maximize value while mitigating risk
Develop pricing strategies that capture premium values for environmental attributes (RINs, LCFS, RTC, etc.)
Establish relationships with key market participants, including utilities, fleet operators, fueling stations, and brokers
Work with legal and finance teams to ensure favorable contract terms and compliance with regulatory requirements
Optimize portfolio value through strategic allocation of RNG across different markets based on pricing analysis
Cross-Functional Leadership
Collaborate with project development teams to ensure RNG projects meet market specifications and client requirements
Partner with operations to understand production capabilities and constraints that impact marketability
Work with finance to develop revenue projections and financial models for RNG projects
Represent the company at industry conferences and regulatory proceedings
Lead and develop marketing team members to build organizational capability
Requirements
Experience
Minimum 20 years of experience in energy marketing and commercial development, with significant focus on renewable energy and preferably RNG markets
Executive-level track record of successfully negotiating and closing complex multi-million dollar offtake agreements
Extensive expertise in environmental attribute markets (RINs, LCFS, RTC, voluntary markets) and their evolution over time
Comprehensive experience working across the RNG value chain from project development through commercial operations
Established background in managing strategic relationships with key industry counterparties including utilities, fleet operators, and major energy marketers
History of successfully navigating multiple market cycles and regulatory regime changes
Knowledge & Skills
Deep understanding of RNG markets, pricing mechanisms, and regulatory frameworks
Strong analytical skills with the ability to model complex market scenarios
Excellent negotiation skills and commercial acumen
Proven ability to develop and execute marketing strategies in evolving markets
Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain complex market dynamics to diverse stakeholders
Proficiency with market analysis tools and data sources
Education
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in Business, Energy, Finance, or related field preferred
Professional certifications in energy markets or sustainability a plus
